Next on my 50 Things To Do In Jaipur list is a replacement for one I couldn’t do! And I’m so glad. best morning ever.
I got this next one from the 50 Things To Do In Jaipur author herself!
From an architectural point of view, I think you’ll like Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in Chitrakoot. It’s beautiful.
I’m so, so glad that I got sent to the Askhardham Temple. It really was beautiful AND, I totally met a friend there.
I got dropped off at the wrong place for the temple and then I immediately banged (bung?) my head on a low hanging metal bar and really hurt myself! I was late to the temple and it closes, so I only had a bit of time.
It’s one of the newer Hindu temples, only twelve years old, but it’s totally old style.
The temple is GORGEOUS and the fact that it is newer, I don’t know, I kind of liked it. It looked like a fairytale temple to me – like Disney.
When I got up closer, even prettier! There’s so much joy surrounding Hindu Temples. The stories of the gods are rich in blood and death and betrayal but the temples and the singing and the architecture, it’s all very uplifting.
And as I staggered around, a nice Indian woman came up to me and told me all about the temple! She walked me all around, took me down in places I would never have gone into on my own. I missed some of what she said because of the language issue – but she did tell me there that there was one of these temples in Chicago! And she was sure of it, telling me that it was the same style of architecture and everything. She said I wouldn’t be able to tell whether you’re in Jaipur or Chicago!
I looked it up AND SHE WAS TOTALLY RIGHT! LOOK! This is in Bartlett, IL.
I love it. The world is a small place you all.
Here is me and Anika:
A most excellent morning, indeed.
