Lost and Found
So this is our blog. This is our travel blog. This is our “we’re going to THAILAND!” blog. It seems so unlikely, that the two of us will leave in roughly a month for three weeks, to go traipsing around somewhere halfway around the world.
Four months ago we both had high-paying jobs, security, a lovely (but expensive) apartment, we were flying high, eating out, going out, spending money. And then a month before our wedding on September 20th, John lost his job. And that was okay, surprising but okay, we were getting married in a month, things could wait.
So we got married and it was lovely and we were fine. And then a month after we got married, I got let go. Suddenly, John and I were lost. Very lost.
After much back and forth, many tears and many hugs later, John and I decided to stick with our original honeymoon idea, we decided to go to Thailand.
It was a really difficult decision for us believe it or not. Every societal bone in our body was saying “stay. find jobs. find something permanent.” But we had learned that nothing is permanent and the time to follow our hearts was now. We have the time, we have the money (it is not endless however) so we decided to follow our hearts, our imagination, our belief that we dictate how we live our lives and to disobey the pressures from society, but to obey the gods of travel and education and creativity and each other.
We decided on the name Lost and Found because it resonates so deeply for both of us. We are….completely lost. We are trying to find a way to honor ourselves and the world, we’re just not sure how. We are found because we have been released from a “9-5″, a trap set for us many moons ago. And we want to be lost in Thailand or China or Russia. We want to learn to feel lost and confused and then to find our way. We are found with each other and through our marriage.
We are lost in dreams of Thailand.
We leave on January 23 for three weeks. We will be blogging, twittering, flickring, facebooking and video blogging. We want to share our struggles and our victories, the impossible times and the fantastic times. We want you to be lost and found with us, we just can’t afford to pay your airfare, so we’ll do it the next best way.
Welcome to our journey.
